The Fire Department Landing Strip is a Civic Building that provides Fire Protection for your Sims.

Fire Stations reduce Flammability by a variable amount dependent on their funding over a variable radius which can be adjusted using the Vehicle Funding slider in the building's Query Panel.

The Fire Department Landing Strip is the most expensive and effective Firefighting solution in SimCity 4 Rush Hour/Deluxe (It was not in the Base Game), with an increased monthly cost, a stronger Fire-deterring effect and a Fire Plane capable of dumping water on fires from above that may not be readily accessible by Fire Engines. However, its very large lot size makes it almost useless in highly populated cities.

It is positioned above the Small Fire Station and below the Fire Department Landing Strip in Fire-fighting power and facilities. The Small Fire Station is a direct downgrade and the Fire Department Landing Strip somewhat of a sidegrade.

Bugs

The Fire Plane has a tendency to, once dispatched, go on patrol and never land at the landing strip again. Manually landing it in U Drive It mode can fix the problem, however the plane may take off again immediately after.

The very limited height attainable by the Fire Plane and limited manoeuvrability means piloting it in a building with many skyscrapers can be reduced to a game of pinball, with the plane repeatedly bouncing off the buildings.
