NAM Documentation

Turn Lanes were first added to the NAM in 2006. Automatic turn lanes for road and avenue intersections became optional plugins in the NAM installer. Road turn lanes were discontinued when the NWM was introduced due to conflicts between the networks. In NAM 31, road turn lanes were re-introduced and could be activated by building a tile of a certain network over top of the intersection.

At first the Rail Tool was used to place road turn lanes; in NAM 31.2 this was changed to the One-Way Road Tool.

Center Turn Lanes can be found in Turning Lane Avenue (TLA) networks, which are NWM networks. These are modeled after reversible left-turn lanes found in the United States and Canada, among other countries.

Avenue Turn Lanes

Avenue turn lanes are an optional component in the NAM installer. When they are chosen to be installed, they will appear at every orthogonal (4-way crossroads) avenue/avenue intersection. No additional action is required to place these turn lanes.

Road Turn Lanes

Beginning in NAM 31, turn lanes could be created automatically at orthogonal intersections by clicking on the intersection tile with the rail tool. In NAM 31.2 and beyond, the One-Way Road Tool is now used to place turn lanes.

The road turn lanes are very flexible and can adapt to many orthogonal intersection setups.
